Years ago when I created this site, I gave a lot of advice about managing time, but I didn’t recommend a good tool to do it.
Now I can and it’s yours for free. It is a powerful new study planner called Shovel. It is unique in that it lets students manage their time and workload in real time.
Most students typically create some kind of a study plan using a day planner, online calendar or a variety of study apps.
The problem with all of these tools is that they are just static to-do lists. They only tell you what you already know – what you have to get done and when it’s due. That isn’t enough.
Shovel is unique in that it is a continuously updating study time calculator. It compares your available study time blocks with the estimated time you need to complete each task. It knows how much study time you HAVE, how much time you NEED, and if you have time to get each task done – all in real time.
College is dynamic. Activities happen spontaneously and your schedule changes constantly. With Shovel, any change you make is instantly reflected across your entire study schedule.
Shovel helps students make decisions about choices that may affect their study deadlines. Want to go to the game instead of studying? Research paper taking longer than you though? Need an extra 10 hours to study for your exam?
Shovel does that math for you, all in real time. You’ll know instantly how it affects everything you need to do or want to do, today, tomorrow, or next week.
With Shovel, you are always in control of your time and your workload. No more surprises.
Why did we name it Shovel?
Shovel is a tool for getting things done. Simple, effective, and virtually unchanged for thousands of years.
Shovel is an action. It’s about doing hard work, much of which you may not want to do.
Shovel is a beginning. It’s the groundbreaking. Starting something new and finishing something big, one small scoop at a time.

Why do we show you this?
To help you set a time mindset. Knowing how long a reading took you will help you predict how long the next reading will take. This will help you build an accurate study plan.
Btw, Shovel automatically calculates how long your readings will take and if you have enough time to get them done.
